Pai’s founder, the talented and inspiring Sarah Brown, was at the event to greet journalists and explain the products in more detail. She gave a talk to explain how long the products have been in the pipeline for and how much more she has understood about the intricacies of creating such gentle products since becoming a mum (of two) herself.

Soft to the touch and oh-so delicate, a baby’s skin does most of its developing during the first year of life. Although the baby has been growing for nine months, he or she will still be born with a developing and vulnerable immune system. This system relies, in part, on the skin to perform as an effective barrier against infections.

In a little more detail... A baby needs to develop an acid mantle, which is a very fine, slightly acidic film on the surface of the skin. This acts as a barrier against potential contaminants. The skin can only develop this and do its job effectively, to act as a first line of defence, after it is fully formed. When first born, a baby’s skin has a high pH level. To maintain a healthy skin barrier, skin should measure at a neutral pH or just below. Which is why you often see products advertised with a pH of 5.5 for children.

The Petit Pai hair and body wash, and face and body cream are formulated to maintain an optimum pH for young, growing skin. The wash, which comes with a Konjac sponge, is free of parabens and SLS, and both products are fragrance-free. They have been made with apple seed oil, which has high concentrations of linolenic fatty acid for intensive moisturising. Sarah Brown’s adult Pai skincare range (which includes wonderful pregnancy-friendly products) has been a revolution for people with sensitive skin. So she, and Pai, can certainly be trusted to formulate the highest of quality and gentlest of skin products.

One of the best things about becoming a parent is getting to be tactile with your beautiful bundle. Bathing and moisturising your baby is a fantastic way to enhance the bonding process and both parents can share the job. Even though your baby has sensitive and developing skin for the first year of its life, don’t let this put you off from enjoying spending time cuddling, cleansing and bathing her.

I like the routine of bath time. It’s our time, and we sing and talk, and close the door on the world for the day. The docile atmosphere when they are clean and ready for bed is bliss.

My favourite bath time is bathing them in the sink splashing about with plastic cups and watching it run back down the draining board snd trying to catch it again.

Bath time is just the best part of the day for us, we chat, we laugh, we smile and it’s our chill down time before reading a bed time story and putting the little ones to bed all fresh and clean ….. Love love love

Being 6months pregnant, my favourite thing is to watch the water rippling from peanut (my baby) moving, so nice to be able to see! I can’t wait until we can have bathtime together with lots of bubbles to create Elvis hairstyles & Santa beards! X

My daughter – who loathes swimming pools – could happily spend an entire day in her bath. At the moment we’re on the verge of learning to crawl, and she slides and shuffles and splashes and splutters her way around the tub as she practices her new moves. The start of bathtime is probably the highlight of both our days. The end, not so much…

We call bathtime the ‘best part of the day’ in our house….lots of bubbles and bath crayons so she can scribble all over the tub! We make bubble beards and sing a lot and we usually get joined by Tippi the dog and Bluebell the cat – not in with us, just watching enviously for the sidelines!! x

I love taking my daughter out of the bath, wrapping her in a warm towel and singing rock a bye baby to her. My mum used to sing this to me and now I love doing this for her. It makes her all sleepy and ready for bed.

Joseph loves splashing around in the bath! This is good for two things , getting all his dinner out of his hair and eyebrows, and tiring him out for bedtime!

My little girl & I like to let her family of ducks ‘dive’ into the water one by one & sing the ‘little ducks went swimming…’ song & she joins in with the quacks. My dry hands appreciate the TLC of her oil then cream application post-bathing.

Bath time is such a lovely time, insuring little one and myself are relaxed. Even puppy stays near by, best part is to have soft music playing and little one splashing around having fun
