Martin Margiela e-boutique opening tomorrow

Maison Martin Margiela will tomorrow launch their 18th store, and the good news? It will be online! Accessible 24/7, I imagine this will be a fantastic source of inspiration, as well as a place to shop. The new site will be an inversion of their original website – everything that was black on the original will be white, and vice versa.
The fashion house has created a special edition of its iconic ‘5 zip’ leather jacket for the launch, limited to 50 mens and 50 womens (available from the online store tomorrow). It has also created a very trendy little video, which I LOVE, and is available to download HERE .
Powered by the YOOX Group, Federico Marchetti, Founder & CEO of YOOX has declared: “We are creating the most visible store in the world for the ‘most invisible designer!”.
Very true – but is this a good thing, and who for? Personally I love the design aspect of the site and the use of irony. But I am very keen to hear how wearers of the label feel about the brand being so globalised…

I love Margiela, even though I can't afford it! An online boutique seems like a bit of a sell out though for a designer who is supposed to be 'invisible'
